VIN signs
VIN number – What the letters and numbers of the VIN mean
Standard European VIN number consists of seventeen characters
The first three characters identify the country of manufacture car and the country of residence of the manufacturer or factory. Characters four through nine provide information about the model, equipment and engine installed in the car. Therefore, for some time now, the engine number has not been entered in the registration document, but only by yourself VIN number.
The tenth mark is the year of production of the car. Unfortunately, there are some exceptions here and e.g.. Renault does not provide the year of production on this item. The tenth field may contain both a letter and a number.
For cars manufactured between a year 1980 i 2000 I have letters from A to Y here, i.e. Y is the year of production 2000 a A to 1980. The letters Z are the exception here, U, O, Q, And the number 0. Digits from 1 do 9 stand for years 2001-2009, while the year 2010 it is again marked with the first letter of the alphabet, i.e. A.
In the eleventh position is the production plant code, and the signs 12-17 define vehicle serial number.
