Six cars stood at the starting line: American Thomas, German Protos, Italian Zust and French brands: DeDion, Motobloc i Sizaire Naudin. In the race, part of which was held on the Trans-Siberian Railway track, Georg Schuster won on the Thomas Flyer 6-70. Winner's travel time - 168 days.
The winning car was made by an American company, founded in 1899 r. in Buffalo by Erwin Ross Thomas. In years 1900 — 1902 the company produced engines and motorcycles. W 1902 r. released the first car with a 2-cylinder engine, later she gradually began to use engines 3-, 4-, and finally 6-cylinder. From 1905 r. models of this company are called Thomas Flyer.
Model price 36 with a 4-cylinder engine and a displacement 9400 cm3, a mocy 44 kW (60 KM) was in 1907 r. 4000 dollars.
6-cylinder Thomas shown 6-70 has an engine with the same cylinder diameter and piston stroke - 140 mm. Engine capacity deserves attention - 12 936 cm3. Engine power 52,9 kW (72 Do it) 4-a stepped gearbox was transferred to the rear axle by means of a propeller shaft, unlike the weaker type Thomas Touring, which the rear wheels were driven by chains.
W 1909 r. luck began to leave Thomas. Eugen Mayer became interested in the plant, which, however, did not save the factory, producing solid and very carefully made cars, before close. W 1919 r. it was driven out of the market by competitors.
