The brothers Jacob and Hendrik Spijker ran from 1899 r. the largest car factory in the Netherlands. They employed a great constructor, Joseph Laviolett, whose cars under the Spyker brand name were selling well, especially in England. In the years 1903—1905 the entire production of Spyker was purchased by the English company Elsforth Automobile Company from Bradford. Spyker's taxis soon flooded London.
The company did not forget about the advertisement. J. Nail w 1907 r. he entered his car for the Beijing - Paris race, organized by the French journal Le Matin”.
Five cars, brought by ship to China, it stopped 10 June 1907 r. at the starting line in the old imperial city of Beijing. A small caravan with great difficulties made its way through the passes between Beijing and the Kalgan Mountains, slipped through the "hole” in the Wall of China, she crossed the Gobi desert and the Siberian tundra, to finally after 60 driving days to reach Paris.
Nail 15 HP, participating in the rally, was a 4-cylinder model. The cylinders were arranged in two blocks with a T-head. At cylinder diameter 90 mm and piston stroke 110 mm had a displacement 2546 cm3. The engine with pressure lubrication according to the Spijker patent developed power 11 do 15kW (15 —20 KM), by 1000 RPM. Longeumare brand carburetor drew fuel from a tank with a capacity 45 liters, located under the front seat. The three-speed gearbox already had rolling bearings. Spijker's further functional patent was a sprung steering wheel. The foot band brake acted on the drive shaft, handbrake on the shoes in the rear wheel drums. The clutch disengaged automatically when the brake was applied. The frame was riveted of steel rectangles. The typical round radiator first appeared on Spykers in 1905 r. After the Spijker Rally, taking advantage of the brand's increased popularity, presented a unique type with pneumatic drive transmission.
The company's last successful model was the z 1921 r. with a 5.7-liter 6-cylinder Maybach engine of power 51,5 kW (70 KM).
W 1925 r. Spyker company, also known for the production of aircraft, ceased its activity.
