SCANIA 12/20 HP – year 1911

Maskinfabrika AB Scania from Malmo started with the production of Humber bicycles, but from 1902. the production of light passenger cars was also undertaken. The first tonneau model had a 2-cylinder engine from the Heinrich Kämper engine factory in Berlin. The gearbox was connected to the engine by a chain transmission. This model was also used by the Swedish heir to the throne for several years, Prince Gustav.
AB Vabis factory, founded in 1891 r. in Sodertalje produced railway carriages, but already in 1897 r. Gustav Erikson built the first Vabis car here. It had a 2-cylinder 2-stroke engine with a glow tube. The company, however, was better known for its commercial vehicles, in total, it only sold 100 Vabis pieces. W 1911 r. the companies merged: AB, Scania AB nailed z.
The new company began producing passenger cars with the Scania-Vabis model 18/20 HP with 4-cylinder in-line engine, which with the diameter of the cylinders 85 mm and piston stroke 100 mm reached capacity 2270 cm3. The drive was transmitted via a four-speed gearbox to the rear axle. Both rigid axles were sprung with semi-elliptical leaf springs. Model 18/20 only one year was produced.
After World War I, Scania-Vabis started producing commercial vehicles and trucks. She was letting out the trucks, fire trucks, postal and other special bodies.
Little demand for models of this brand in the late twenties caused, that in 1929 r. The last passenger car left the factory gates. Both companies returned to their former production program. Scania takes over the production of bicycles within Saab, and Vabis still produces rail cars.
