RENAULT AX – year 1909

1906 r. Renault has won the ACF Grand Prix, organized by the French Automobilklub (Automobile Club of France). It was actually the first Grand Prix race in the world. Competitor F's winning car. The hookah had a 4-cylinder displacement engine 12,8 liter and power 77,7 kW (105 KM). It was reaching maximum speed 148,5 km/h. These parameters constituted the best advertisement for the company, which production surpassed at that time for the first time 2000 pieces. The Renault brand quickly became popular, also outside France. Two-cylinder serial Renaults began to be exported to England.
The Renault AX car was powered by an in-line 2-cylinder engine 1885 cm3, at the cylinder diameter 100 mm and piston stroke 120 mm. The engine with a low-valve timing developed power 10,3 kW (14 KM) by 1600 RPM. The ignition function was performed by a high-voltage magneto. The engine was cooled with water from the radiator, traditionally located behind the engine, and a fan driven by a flywheel, 3-the stepped gearbox takes the driving force from the engine via a conical clutch and transfers it to the rigid rear axle. Body, attached to the longitudinal frame, was sprung with semi-elliptical leaf springs. The handbrake acted on the rear wheels. A car with a weight 860 kg reached maximum speed 65 km/h.
Type AG, with a specially adapted body - with an open chauffeur seat and a closed passenger cabin, it became popular in Paris at that time as a taxi.
