Adjustments and checks of the K-Jetronic injection system – Audi 80

Adjustments and checks of the K-Jetronic injection system – Audi 80.

Adjusting the idle speed and the concentration of carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas.

The idle adjustment screws and the carbon monoxide concentration in the exhaust gas are located as shown in the figure 2.210. The carbon monoxide adjusting screw is located in the fuel manifold near the intake manifold and is covered with a rubber plug. Adjustment should be made under the following conditions.

■ The engine should be warmed up to operating temperature.

■ The ignition system should be working properly.

■ If the injection pipes have been unscrewed, increase the engine speed to several times 3000 RPM, then the engine should run through at least 2 Run at idle for minutes.

■ All electrical consumers (also the radiator fan electric motor) should be turned off.

■ Air conditioning unit (if the car is equipped with them) should also be turned off.

■ Fit a caliper on the connecting line of the two-way idle speed increase valve (1, lynx. 2.209), so that no air flows through the tubing.

■ Engine crankcase breather hose (2) it must be disconnected from the engine yes, that clean air is drawn in through the air filter.

The power system is adjusted in the following sequence.

■ Connect the tachometer according to the manufacturer's instructions.

■ Start the engine, determine and check the engine idle speed. This speed should be 800…1000 RPM. If the rotational speed is within the above range, regulatory work is not needed.

■ When Necessary, the rotational speed can be changed by turning the screw (A, lynx. 2.210), up to position, wherein the rotational speed is 950 ± 30 rpm.

■ Check the CO concentration in the flue gas with the instrument according to the operating instructions of the manufacturer of the measuring instrument. If the indications of the instrument do not fall within the limits from 0,5% do 1,5%, set the CO content in the flue gas to 1,3 ±0,2%. For adjustment, use the key marked with the symbol P377.

■ Remove the rubber cap of the adjusting screw hole (B) shown in the figure 2.210. Place the wrench on the adjusting screw in the hole.

■ Turn the key clockwise – the concentration of carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas will increase, left – the concentration of carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas will decrease.

■ Do not press on or pull out the adjusting screw with a wrench. Do not increase the engine speed, if the key is inserted into the hole. After the adjustment is made, immediately remove the key from the adjustment screw hole.

■ Plug the hole for the adjusting screw.
