PHIL HILL (1927-2008)- American
There are very few competitors taking part in Grand Prix races, who haven't had any major accident. But when browsing the list of world champions, we come across a name, which seemingly does not provide a topic for exciting risky tales or heroic deeds. Nevertheless, the calm American won America's Grand Prix (Italy 1960), what was the last time Murphy managed to race in ACF in 1921 year. Immediately after that, he became the first American to win the world title in a year 1961. All he needed was a Ferrari car and two victories in the Belgian and Italian Grand Prix races. Hill was absolutely not the predatory type, a militant fighter, for whom professions are life. As a boy, not very skillful in team sports, he was rather a loner fond of books, and most of all music. In his conversations with journalists, he argued, that he does not want a villa, yachts or dealing with business and he has confirmed this with his lifestyle. Swimming, walks, visiting historical monuments, traveling is his favorite activity, of which he put travels first. W 1963 He changed his Ferrari car to the new ATS car brand, not very happily. The following year he was still riding in Cooper's team, however, he scored only one championship point, which marked the end of his career at the Grand Prix. However, he has become one of the best players in another discipline – in sports car racing on long tracks.
