PANHARD-LEVASSOR DYNAMIC – year 1936

Manufacturer: S. A. Former Panhard establishments & Levassor, Paris, France.

Firma Panhard & Levassor introduced in 1936 r. a model considered by some to be a unique body study. However, it is a series car, which in 1937 r. became the only produced model of the company.

Firma Panhard & Levassor, as one of the last in Europe, she clung to the valveless, spool valve engine, the license she obtained from the American Charles Knight already in 1907 r. Cars of such European companies were equipped with these engines, how: Mors, Woisin, Peugeot, Clement, Belgian company Minerva, and even German and English Daimler. The slider timing ensured that the engine was running extremely quietly, but it was very expensive, thus when individual brands began to experience financial difficulties, and also wanted to meet the increasing demand for more powerful cars, they abandoned the Knight engine.

The Dynamic model was delivered with two types of engines of different displacement and power, 6-cylinder valveless engine with a capacity 2,9 liter developed power 58,9 kW (80 KM), and the larger - 3.8-liter engine developed power 73,5 kW (100 KM). The self-supporting body had independent front wheel suspension, at the rear, it had oscillating driveshafts suspended on torsion bars.

The car was distinguished by an unusual streamlined body of the French stylistic school, to emphasize its dynamic properties. The curved corner windows had to have panoramic lenses for better visibility of the driver, because the driver's seat for 1939 r. it was in the center of the vehicle.

Even after World War II, Panhard did not change its innovative approach to automotive technology. W 1945 r. skillful constructor, J. A. Gregoire, known as a supporter of front wheel drive in cars, developed a prototype of a small car with air-cooled 2-cylinder counter-rotating piston engine and cylinder capacity 600 cm3. Panhard has obtained a license for this successful simple motor, using it in the new Dyna-Panhard model.
