FERRARI 256 – year 1959
Car Ferrari Construction, Modena, Italy.
W 1959 year in the Formula Car World Championship 1 English rider Tony Brooks at Ferrari came second 256.
Type 256 was based on the previous type 246, having a cylinder diameter increased to 86 mm, thanks to which the total capacity increased to 2474 cm3. Formula recipes 1 they allowed only aviation gasoline with an octane rating of 100-130 as fuel. The six-cylinder V-engine was driven by the use of octane number gasoline 100 equal power 206 kW (280 KM) by 8500 RPM. Engine, placed on the front, was deviated from the longitudinal axis of the car, allowing the propeller shaft to be positioned next to the driver's seat. Marella's ignition had two candles in each cylinder. Three double Weber type carburetors were installed. The four-speed gearbox was located at the rear, next to the stiff de Dion bridge. In the rigid rear axle, the leaf spring has been replaced with coil springs to reduce the weight of the vehicle. For the same reason, a tubular space frame was used, thus increasing the overall stiffness of the car at the same time. The empty vehicle weight therefore dropped to 560 kg. The maximum achieved speed was 270 km/h.
W 1959 In the year, the de Dion rear axle concept became inadequate for ever lighter car designs, therefore Ferrari switched to independent rear suspension by means of parallelogram transverse arms at the end of the season. The best type player 256 was Tony Brooks, who won in 1959 year of the French Grand Prix in Reims (203,9 km/h) and races on Avuse. Brooks was second at the Monaco Grand Prix, and in the US Grand Prix in Sebring - third. Ferrari cars also took high places in the Monza race: P. Hill - drugie, Don Gurney - the fourth, and Allison was fifth.
