Factory gas installations

The number of LPG-powered cars in use in Poland has exceeded 2,5 million. Most of them are vehicles with gasoline engines, adapted in specialized workshops for gas combustion. Cars with such a factory installation are less common.

Peugeot in a dual-fuel model 406 SR GPL (sedan and van), with drive unit type XU7JP4 (1761 cm3, 79 kW). The valves and their seats have been reinforced and made resistant to elevated temperatures. Toroidal fuel tank with a capacity 57 dm3 was placed in the spare wheel well.
Similar devices have been developed for most of the Renault range. However, it was not decided to introduce such vehicles to the offer. The reason is too high cost; the price of the car would have to increase by approx. 10 thousand. PLN, which would call into question its commercial opportunities.
Daewoo has contracts with authorized plants, which adapt its products to gas supply. The customer then retains the same rights, what about the acquisition of an "ordinary" car (m.in. three-year warranty and service).

Individual installation of LPG set for modern engines with catalytic converter and lambda probe, injection powered, with gas fed upstream of the throttle, it usually costs within limits 2500-2600 PLN gross (with assembly), in unusual or more difficult cases it may reach 3600 PLN. In older cars, carburetor powered (first generation kits, with an agitator located under the carburetor) the cost will be 1200-1300 PLN. If someone decided to run on natural gas, regardless of the negligible number of points, enabling its drawing, would have to take into account the expense of the order 6000 PLN. However, specialists say, that the future belongs to this fuel.
