DELAGE D8 – year 1933

The activities of the car manufacturer Delage since its founding in 1903 r. it is related to racing. The very first single-cylinder car by Louis Delage took part in the competition. After him, the company built models 4- and 6-cylinder with a classic concept.
After World War I, the company began to promote luxury cars. It built a huge 6-cylinder model for this purpose, each cylinder had a capacity 1000 cm3. The camshaft in the cylinder head was driven by a king shaft. The model did not bring the expected commercial success.
Delage had a much greater track record in motorsport. At the French Grand Prix in Lyon in 1924 r. Delage cars took second and third place, and a year later an excellent racing driver, Robert benoist, won that race, w 1927 r. he also won the Grand Prix in Montlhery, at Monza and San Sebastian, and Delage became the best racing cars of the year.
The company did not forget about elegance competitions, popular in those times. At the Paris Motor Show, she presented W. 1929 r. your new D8; 8-cylinder, in-line cylinder bore engine 77 mm and piston stroke 109 mm had a displacement 4060 cm3. In the touristic version, the engine reached power 59,2 kW (80 KM). The sports version developed power 66,2 kW (90 KM), 4-the gearbox formed one block with the engine. The rigid front axle was suspended on semi-elliptical leaf springs. The curb weight of the car was 1440 kg.
W 1939 r. in Monte Carlo the Delage D8 / 120 model charmed the jury, which awarded this Villars convertible almost five meters in length first prize.
Despite such successes, a difficult financial situation forced Louis Delage to sell his company 1935 r. his famous company Delahaye.
The Delage brand has retained its production program and name as part of the merger. Both companies ceased to exist in 1954 r.
