CORD 810 – year 1937

After the failures of the first L 29, when, due to the low load on the front axle, Hollywood stars had to reverse the Beverly Hills hill, w 1935 r. a new model has appeared 810.
The new Cord was a developed L 29. On the chassis with 3,175 m wheelbase was a body with a finned radiator, because of which this model was popularly called -1- “Refrigerator on wheels”. The new chassis had a split axle with trailing wishbones at the front, underneath it was the gearbox. V-shaped Lycoming V8 8-cylinder engine 4,73 liter, he was developing power 91,9 kW (125 KM) by 3500 RPM. and had a low valve timing; 4-the gearbox had electromagnetic control with preselection. The peculiarity of the body with a mass of almost 2 tons were retractable headlights. Brakes and steering were improved, which improved driving comfort. In the standard version, the model had the body of an open travel vehicle.
W 1936 r. the engine was supplemented with a Cummins compressor. In this performance, he developed power 125 kW (170 KM) by 3250 RPM. This new type was named Cord 812.
In the eyes of contemporaries, this extravagant car was not only better, but also cheaper than its failed predecessor L. 29. Luck, however, was not very conducive to him. Additional difficulties arose at the stage of preparation for production, Delivery dates were more than half a year late and contracts for the purchase of cars were canceled. Total produced 2320 pieces of these "refrigerators”, when E. L. Cord unexpectedly closed the entire plant.
W 1938 r. Auburn and Duesenberg's production has also ended.
