Counter rollback
The problem of turning the meter readings, i.e. the popular reversing of the meter or, nicely speaking, the correction of the mileage of vehicles, is as old as the entire automotive industry. In the course of the history of cars, only the techniques of counter reversing and mileage combination have changed.
After the introduction of electronic meters, which completely superseded the mechanical ones it seemed, that the problem will disappear because of this, that the counter reverse scam will be difficult and requires specialized knowledge. However, it turns out, that it is quite the opposite. Once upon a time, to change the odometer reading, it was enough to disassemble the mechanism, play clockmaker and set the correct numbers.
Today it is much easier. Having a laptop and software, with access to which there are rather no problems, just plug into the diagnostic socket and enter the suggested mileage on the computer keyboard, what we want, to car had to call it a facelift.
Of course, for a specialist, it is not only the mileage counter that shows the mileage, however, for the average buyer used car This is where the key lies in assessing the condition of the vehicle you are purchasing and making your purchasing decision.
The problem with turning the counters, which this practice is estimated to be very common, when it comes to for example used cars sold in commissions, it lies in mentality and a kind of social consent. Instead of fighting this problem, we take it for granted. This is a mistake, because turning the meters is not only resourcefulness and a knack for the interests of Polish traders used cars, it is primarily a problem of criminal liability. Not everyone is aware of the fact, that the withdrawal of the counter is in the light of Polish law, without notifying the buyer car, which seems to be obvious, it's just a crime, for which is punishable by imprisonment from six months to eight years.
Unfortunately after the purchase car, if we even find out, that the car has a counterfeit, we recognize, that we have been deceived and that we are not trying to assert our rights by thinking, that we will be exposed to a negative opinion of the environment, which he finds, that we are losers, since we bought used car with the prepared state of the counter.
It turns out, that we are not helpless in the face of such a crime. In the event of a forgery, if we acquired car from a private person, we should have a civil case. Exhibitor car for sale i.e. the seller is responsible for hidden defects of the vehicle, in this case, the counter that does not reflect the actual mileage is precisely the latent drawback. In such a situation, we can demand the reimbursement of some of the car purchase costs, that is, de facto, lowering its price or canceling the entire transaction.
