Henry Leland, general manager of Cadillac, apart from skilful management of the company, he also found time for inventions. An example is his idea's hair clipper. He contributed to the development of automotive technology, by constructing automatic ignition timing control, he also deserved in introducing v 1911 r. electric starter in mass-produced cars.
Leland was not fooled by the benefits of mass production and set out to build the best cars in the world. Therefore, in 1914 r. built a model, undoubtedly the first eight-cylinder mass-produced car. In a short time Cadillac cars became not only the most perfect, but also the most expensive American cars.
One of the super-luxurious models of the second half of the twenties was the model 314 with 1927 r. The car was driven by an 8-cylinder V-engine with a capacity 5,5 liter, who developed power 56,8 kW (80 KM) by 2000 RPM. A technical curiosity was the flywheel and dynamostarter. The model still had an unsynchronized 3-speed gearbox, because the first syncronized appeared, also thanks to Cadillac, only in 1928 r. The classic chassis had both rigid bridges, sprung with leaf springs. The car had mechanical brakes on 4 wheels, double on the rear wheels - band and jaw. At empty weight 2150 kg Cadillac 314 developed top speed 130 km/h. In addition to the main headlights, the car also had auxiliary headlights, which rotated in line with the change in position of the front wheels. The rear lights came on when reverse gear was engaged. The silver-inlaid instrument panel is worth mentioning from the rich interior and furnishings of the model, combination upholstery in two types of red leather, lighting of the steps when opening the door and a compressor for inflating tires.
