ALFA ROMEO 6 C 1750 GREAT SPORT – year 1930

In addition to the excellent P2 racing cars, the drivers behind the cars contributed to the success of the Alfa-Romeo brand, as well as winning duels with cars of such renowned companies, like Bugatti, Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, Auto Union, Delage i Talbot.
Victor Jano, main designer of Alfa Romeo, inspired by the successful type P2, began production of a typical series of high-performance sports cars. The first 6-cylinder engines with one camshaft in the cylinder head had a displacement 1,5 liter.
Thanks for the power 44,1 kW (60 KM) by 4500 rpm, cars equipped with such an engine reached speed 120 km/h.
The six-cylinder Gran Sport was undoubtedly a worthy model of this series, about engine capacity 1752 cm3. The powertrain of this car surpassed even the sophisticated Bugatti mechanisms with its splendid workmanship. The water-cooled engine had cylinders in diameter 65 mm and piston stroke 88 mm, lined up in a row. A vertical king shaft drove two overhead camshafts. With the Roots supercharger, the engine developed power 62 kW (84 KM) by 4500 RPM. The drive was transferred to the rigid rear axle by a dry multi-plate clutch. The classic chassis made of the best materials had both rigid axles with semi-elliptical leaf springs. Simple, but elegant exterior with distinctive, the high steps were the work of the famous stylist Zagato. In the massive rear part of the body there was a tank for 110 liters of fuel, two batteries and a large trunk. The car was developing speed 145 km/h.
The last series of type 6 C 1750 Gran Sport had a powerful engine 77,2 kW (105 KM), developing maximum speed to 170 km/h, at acceleration from 0 on 100 km within 10 seconds.
Do 1934 r. total produced 320 copies of the famous model, which was also driven by Enzo Ferrari himself.
